New Hyperspectral Procedure to Discriminate Intertidal Macroalgae

چکیده

The recent development and miniaturization of hyperspectral sensors embedded in drones has allowed the acquisition images with high spectral spatial resolution. characteristics both (viewing angle, flying altitude, resolution) create opportunities to consider use imagery map monitor macroalgae communities. In general, overflight areas be mapped is conconmittently associated accompanied measurements carried out field acquire spectra previously identified objects. An alternative these simultaneous acquisitions a library made up pure different species place, that would spare during each flight. However, such technique requires developed appropriate procedure for testing level classification can achieved, as well reproducibility over time. This study presents novel approach based on reflectance acquired controlled conditions. overall angle mapper (SAM) algorithm applied first derivative data. efficiency this been tested composed 16 species, its temporal monthly survey response macro-algae species. addition, results obtained new were also compared through most robust published. shows allows perfectly discriminate phyla, whatever period. At level, less effective when individuals studied belong phylogenetically close (i.e., Fucus spiralis serratus).

Biomechanical consequences of epiphytism in intertidal macroalgae.

Epiphytic algae grow on other algae rather than hard substrata, perhaps circumventing competition for space in marine ecosystems. Aquatic epiphytes are widely thought to negatively affect host fitness; it is also possible that epiphytes benefit from associating with hosts. This study explored the biomechanical costs and benefits of the epiphytic association between the intertidal brown algal ep...

Climate change stimulates the growth of the intertidal macroalgae Ascophyllum nodosum near the northern distribution limit

Ascophyllum nodosum is a foundation macroalgae of the intertidal zone that distributes across latitude 41.3-69.7°N. We tested the hypothesis that growth of A. nodosum near the northern distribution edge increases with warming. We retrospectively quantified the growth of eight A. nodosum populations at West Greenland and North Norway (from 64°N to 69°N). For seven populations, we measured growth...

Selecting optimal hyperspectral bands to discriminate nitrogen status in durum wheat: a comparison of statistical approaches.

Hyperspectral data can provide prediction of physical and chemical vegetation properties, but data handling, analysis, and interpretation still limit their use. In this study, different methods for selecting variables were compared for the analysis of on-the-ground hyperspectral signatures of wheat grown under a wide range of nitrogen supplies. Spectral signatures were recorded at the end of st...

The effect of ulvoid macroalgae on the inorganic carbon utilization by an intertidal seagrass Thalassia hemprichii

Blooms of ulvoid macroalgae (mainly Enteromorpha and Ulva) have covered 80% of the intertidal seagrass bed at Wanlitung, southern Taiwan, effectively shading the seagrasss species Thalassia hemprichii resulting in a decrease in photosynthetic performance and low inorganic carbon (C i ) uptake. We looked for evidence of C i limitation and investigated the C i utilization characteristics of ulvoi...
